In addition to his practice, Russell Townsend has also pursued public service and has performed as Judge Pro Tem in settlement matters and small claims court appeals for the Marin County Courts, has acted as discovery facilitator in discovery disputes for the Sonoma County Superior Court, mediator in the fee dispute resolution program for the State Bar of California, and sits on the settlement panel for the Marin County Courts.  In addition to his experience over the years in mediating and arbitrating disputes, Mr. Townsend has received professional training in mediation and is available to act as a mediator in all areas of his practice, including the following:

Energy Law,  including disputes relating to transmission and generation development, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, site control agreements, land acquisition agreements, CEQA matters, regulatory compliance, operations and maintenance agreements,utility right of way acquisitions,  public-private partnerships (transmission/energy), electric and gas supply and operations and wind and solar power projects.

Real Estate Law, including disputes relating to acquisitions and title insurance matters, easements and boundary disputes, real estate development (including construction defects), real estate leasing and management, land use, environmental laws, swamp and overflow, submerged and tide lands laws, zoning, implied dedication, water boundaries and general litigation.

Municipal Law, including disputes relating to eminent domain, business development, municipal services and utilities, public contracting, municipal utility matters and development, public-private partnerships, electric and gas operations, transmission development and right of way acquisitions.

Family Law, including disputes relating to child protective services, child custody, property division, visitation, and general dissolution matters.
